Herring Elected Democratic Party of Virginia Chairwoman

Herring represents central and west Alexandria in the state House of Delegates.

Charniele Herring, the state delegate whose district includes West End Alexandria, was selected Saturday to lead the Democratic Party of Virginia. Herring was voted into the top spot during the party’s Central Committee meeting Saturday morning in Williamsburg. She released the following statement Saturday: "I am humbled by the strength and diversity of Virginia Democrats," she said. "I look forward to fighting every day to ensure we continue to elect Democrats here in this great Commonwealth." Outgoing party Chairman Brian Moran announced his resignation last month. The Mount Vernon District Democratic Committee (MVDDC) held its annual campaign kickoff Saturday and the event welcomed a record number of local supporters. Democrats including former Governor Tim Kaine, U.S. Rep. Jim Moran, Mount Vernon District Supervisor Gerry Hyland, state Sen. George Barker, Del. Scott Surovell and Mount Vernon School Board Member Dan Storck all addressed the crowd. Community members were invited to enjoy free ice cream and food, and were also given the opportunity to speak one-on-one with elected officials and candidates. On Saturday, the Lee District Democrats had a Hawaiian feast. The annual fundraiser was hosted by Susie Warner on Edison Drive in Rose Hill.  Delegate David Bulova bartended and was assisted by his mother, Sharon Bulova, Chair of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Other attendees included U.S. Rep. Jim Moran (D-8th), Lee District Supervisor Jeff McKay, former DNC chair Terry McAuliffe, Virginia State Senators George Barker (D-39) and Toddy Puller (D-36) and Del. Charisse Espy Glassman, of Falls Church, received one of the Fairfax County Democrat Committee's endorsements last month for an at-large seat on the Fairfax County School Board. Over the years, Glassman has become more involved in Fairfax County Public Schools, currently serving on two school board committees and the PTA of her fourth-grade son's school. Englin endorses Krupicka, chance of thunderstorms, Wyatt Campbell trial update.

Today will be partly sunny, with a high temperature near 82 degrees. There is a chance of showers between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and a chance of thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Virginia Delegate David Englin has endorsed Alexandria City Councilman Rob Krupicka for the State Senate race. Edison High School's Baccalaureate service will be held this evening at Bush Hill Presbyterian Church. The service begins at 7 p.m. The defense in the Wyatt Cambell trial is looking for evidence of drug-dealing and plans to claim self-defense.  The Ford Motor Company was incorporated today in 1903.
