Mutts Matter: Ozzie's Next Adventure

Ozzie is a people-oriented pointer mix who recently lost his family to cancer. He needs a break in his luck, and we’re hoping the Patch community can help.

Meet Ozzie, a unique looking pointer mix with a beautiful spotted brindle coat, a curly tail, and a winning smile. He’s about five years old and weighs 50 pounds, but could stand to lose a few after some extra snacking over the winter. Ozzie is an affectionate and people-oriented dog who loves to be petted, and just wants a family to love. He’s been through a major life change over the past year and is due for some good news.  Ozzie was adopted as a puppy by a great family, and lived with them until this past year. Then his mom got very sick and died of brain cancer, and his dad’s world turned upside down. His dad moved into an apartment, threw himself into work, and Ozzie started spending a lot of time alone. He didn't do well being by …

Mutts Matter: Romeo, The Ladies' Man

Romeo is a young, cuddly American bulldog mix in search of a loving family.

Romeo is a charming 18-month-old American bulldog/terrier mix with soulful puppy dog eyes that he knows how to use to his advantage, and a big bully smile that’s very endearing. He currently weighs about 65 pounds, but should be closer to 70 at his ideal weight. He’s a handsome dog, with a striking black and white coat with hints of brindle mixed in. Romeo looks a little like “Petey,” the famous dog from The Little Rascals, and has similarly cute expressions.  When I met Romeo and his foster mom, Vicki, at the park for his photo shoot, he was the perfect model – calm, attentive, and ready to strike a pose. He warmed up to me right away, took treats gently and was very engaging. Vicki jokingly calls Romeo the “ladies’ man” because he bonds …

Mutts Matter: Princess Daisy

Meet Daisy, an adorable and loveable young pug who is ready to be the one and only pup in your life.

Hey, guys! My name is Daisy and I’m so very pleased to meet you. I’m an adorable and loveable three-year-old fawn pug with big, soulful brown eyes and a frowny little face that you can’t help but smile at. I’m your typical pug - sweet and affectionate, love to snuggle and devoted to my people. I enjoy being the center of attention and, like all princesses, I deserve to be spoiled. I was surrendered by my former owner to a shelter in Maryland, which is no place for a delicate pup like me. I had a few challenges in my former home when they brought a new dog in because I didn’t feel like sharing the spotlight or attention. Besides, why would anyone need another dog when you have me to love and entertain you? Mutts Matter has tested me around …

Mutts Matter: How to Choose The Right Dog For You

With so many deserving dogs in need of a home, how do you choose the right one for you? Use our guide to help.

Adding a dog to your family can be a rewarding and life-changing experience. Dogs enrich our lives and have the amazing ability to give and receive love unconditionally. A dog is a loyal companion and friend, an instant playmate and a guardian -- but they are also a long-term commitment. You will be the most special person in your dog’s life, and they will be dependent on you. As a member of your family, it will be your responsibility to care and provide for your dog in sickness and in health. Before making this major life decision, it’s important to think it through and find the dog that best fits your lifestyle, personality and family dynamic. The choice can be overwhelming; there are so many adorable dogs to choose from, and they all …

Mutts Matter: Sweetie’s Heart of Gold

Meet Sweetie, a delightful Rottweiler mix who has a lot of love to give and deserves a great home.

Sweetie’s name suits her perfectly; she has a heart of gold, a gentle nature and is as sweet as can be. She has not always been properly cared for by her human family, but that hasn’t impacted her spirit or love of people one bit. Sweetie is a six-year-old, 98-pound Rottweiler mix -- a breed that’s often mischaracterized because they are a large, dark, and powerful dog. In reality, they are highly intelligent, loyal protectors of their family, and do so well in obedience training that they make excellent service and therapy dogs. Sweetie would be great in a service role because of her loving and calm nature, and her ability to roll through life’s different obstacles with ease. She’s the perfect companion dog, affectionate, loyal, social, …

Mutts Matter: Add A Little Happy-ness to Your Life

Happy is an adorable, playful, entertaining little pup who will make a great sidekick.

When you see Happy, you just have to smile. He’s a little pup with a big personality and a zest for life. Happy has a great temperament and just wants to play, love and have a family to call his own. Mutts Matter named him Hapsburg, or “Happy” for short, because he’s always smiling and wagging his tail and excited to see you. We think Happy is some type of longhaired Chihuahua mix, and he’s still a young, energetic pup at less than two years old. He only weighs ten pounds, and has a silky, golden coat and a funny little under bite that makes him stand out from the pack. We don’t know a lot about Happy’s background because he was picked up as a stray. He’s being fostered by first-time foster dad, Matt, who, in the process of looking to …

Fetching Kia

Meet Kia, a handsome shepherd mix who is playful, affectionate and a loyal family dog.

Hi, guys! My name’s Kia and I’ve been waiting patiently to find my new family for a while now. I’m not sure what the holdup is, so I’m taking this time to introduce myself because I know they are out there. I’m still a young pup at only three-years-old, and I have a goofy, playful nature. I'm an active dog. I weigh about 60 pounds, and Mutts Matter thinks I’m a shepherd mix, though some folks have suggested I may have some Rottweiler or hound in me, too. I just know I’m a mutt and proud of it. I’m a handsome dog with a sturdy build, shiny coat, and a big, infectious smile. My foster mom, Kelly, calls me a cuddle bug because I’m affectionate and always want to be next to her. I follow her from room to room, and if she lies down on the couch…

Hey TLN -We think Kia would fit best in a home with older kids. It's not like she is bad with little ones, but she's a pup who needs time and space to settle in, and a 4 yr old does not necessarily understand that.   more ›

Industrious Little Jonah

This cute cocker spaniel has a sweet nature and independent spirit that make him the perfect companion.

Jonah is an adorable cocker spaniel puppy who is barely a year old and weighs 28 pounds. He has the softest, silky coat with beautiful rich chocolate and creamy white coloring, and big round puppy-dog eyes that just make you smile. With that perfect older-puppy temperament where he’s still playful and loves to hang out with you, but also independent and smart, Jonah doesn’t need constant attention… he’s got things to do.  Little Jonah took it upon himself to escape from a very hard life. He was found running at large with a bark collar and part of a chain still attached to him. He was being kept outside and neglected; his coat was matted, he had cherry eye, and he had tested positive for heartworm. These issues, and the discomfort Jonah …

Lucky's Best Is Yet To Come

Meet Lucky, a beautiful, young plott hound mix who needs a little luck in her life.

Hey there, Patch friends! My name is Lucky and I’m very pleased to meet you. I’m a gorgeous plott hound mix with striking, honey-brown eyes, and a vibrant dark brindle coat that really makes me stand out from the pack. I weigh about 50 pounds, but I’m just a little over a year old, so I still have some filling out and maturing to do. I’m a sweet and affectionate dog who needs some structure and leadership in my life. I’m great inside the house with my foster family and their dogs, but it takes me some time to trust new people and new situations. I think I probably need my own personal dog whisperer, a strong leader who will work with me to complete my rehabilitation. I will admit that it’s a little ironic that my name is Lucky, since luck …

Odie The Optimist

Meet Odie, a lovable, special needs pug looking for his special someone.

Hi! My name is Odie, and I’m one of those glass-half-full types of dog. I find joy in the simple pleasures of life, like snuggling with my person and eating treats of any kind. Love and food... what more do you need? I’m a six or seven-year-old pug, weigh a little over 20 pounds, and am almost totally blind, but that doesn’t stop me or dampen my spirits. I’m a healthy and resilient dog who is both confident and social, and I love to share affection.  Mutts Matter rescued me on Thanksgiving eve, when a kind soul reached out to them for help. I’m a casualty of divorce, and then my dad no longer wanted me, so he wouldn’t let me in the house. I was living outside, tied up to porch and exposed to all the elements. This was a pretty scary …

Any news on Odie? I have been trying to plot how to make him mine since he was brought to my attention a few days ago. I know I'm not the ideal candidate for his new Mom, even besides the unending amount of love I have to give and the great care I have taken of my 8 yr old special needs pug. I live with my sister, her husband, 12yr old golden, 1.5yr old boy and she has another on the way. My …   more ›
