Verizon Fixes Unbolted Lids in Franconia After Child Falls Into Hole
After Verizon was contacted by Patch, they sent a crew to fix unbolted underground boxes that were a safety hazard in the Franconia Commons community.
It was a cold dark night about two weeks ago when a family took their dog for a walk in Franconia Commons, a neighborhood of colonial townhomes in Fairfax County. During the walk, an 8-year-old child fell into a four-foot-deep hole filled with dirty cold water. The hole was a large plastic underground box housing Verizon FiOS equipment. Hauled out of the hole, the child and family headed home, nursing cuts, bruises and bumps and shaken by the incident. The family contacted friends and neighbors, and also Verizon to let them know about the unsecured lid over the manhole.
