Franconia Road is currently closed both ways between Inwood Drive and Seatrend Way due to an accident involving downed power lines in the roadway, according to Fairfax County Traffic Alert. The area is expected to be closed for more than two hours. Motorists are asked to avoid this area during this time. Detectives are requesting witnesses to the fatal crash on Franconia Road in Rose Hill to contact the police.
Crash reconstruction detectives are looking for witnesses as the investigation into the fatal crash on Monday near Franconia Road and Gum Street continues. During the investigation, detectives learned of a second good Samaritan who helped the injured police officer out of his vehicle. The police want to identify the male teenager with dark hair in order to properly thank him. The police are also urging anybody who witnessed the crash and/or took video of the scene before they arrived to come forward. Nearly 200 friends, neighbors and supporters visited Clermont Elementary School Tuesday night to honor Becky Johns, who died last year at age 9. Becky died on August 30, 2010, when she was struck by a car while riding her bike on Franconia Road. On the one year anniversary of her death, the overwhelming crowd gathered to dedicate a bench to Becky's memory, offering touching words that left nearly every face in the crowd streaked with tears. “The bench is gorgeous," said Andy Johns, Becky's father. "It’s moved me beyond words. We weren’t expecting this high of a turnout.
