Brownie Troop 989 will give a portion of the proceeds to Wounded Warriors.
Despite the cold rain Saturday, members of local Brownie Troop 989 set up their Girl Scout booth outside of Giant in Kingstowne to sell Girl Scout cookies. A portion of the troop's cookie sales will benefit the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, which is a part of the Wounded Warrior Project. Booths will be set up at multiple locations starting this weekend.
It's the time of year when everyone is searching for a Girl Scout booth to purchase their favorite cookies. Starting this weekend, a few booths will be set up at your local grocery stores and at the Kingstowne Library. Here is a list of places you can buy Girl Scout cookies in the Kingstowne area this weekend: Giant, 5870 Kingstowne Blvd. Giant, 7558 Telegraph Rd. Girl Scouts in Kingstowne are already going door to door selling Girl Scout cookies. Girl Scout cookie sales booths open Feb. 22.
If you get an unexpected knock at the door, you may want to answer it: Girl Scouts in Kingstowne are going door to door now selling Thin Mints, Tagalongs and other Girl Scout cookies. Local Girl Scouts were able to sell to friends and family members as early as December, but door-to-door sales did not start until mid-January. Girl Scouts will be selling cookies at several locations and events throughout Kingstowne from Feb. 22 through March 24. Girl Scouts around Northern Virginia begin selling Girl Scout cookies Friday afternoon from their "booths" outside local grocery stores and other troop-friendly retail and high-traffic areas. Lemony new flavor, Savannah Smiles, is introduced this year to celebrate 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts; area booth sales begin Friday, Feb. 24
In honor of its 100th anniversary this year, the Girl Scouts have introduced a new cookie to its annual offerings: "Savannah Smiles." The cookie, described as zesty and lemony, takes its name from the birthplace of Girl Scouts founder Juliette Gordon Low. Girl Scouts in Northern Virginia began their annual door-to-door sales of Girl Scout cookies recently and will start cookie booth sales on Friday, Feb. 24. Each box of cookies sells for $4 and troops typically keep 65 cents to 70 cents per box; the rest goes to regional programs, training, camping and more.
