In interview on WTOP Tuesday, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell says idea should be explored.
Gov. Bob McDonnell said on Tuesday that it may be time to explore the idea of arming teachers and other school officials. The Republican governor made his remarks in an interview Tuesday on WTOP. His remarks came during a discussion of the killing of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Conn., on Friday. The governor was asked: "What about the idea of allowing people — adults, supervisors, principals, teachers — to be armed inside the public schools of Virginia?" "I know there's been a knee-jerk reaction against that," McDonnell said. "I think there should at least be a discussion about it." "If people were armed, not just a police officer but other officials who were trained and chose to have a weapon, …

Virginia senator said his three daughters asked him Friday what he was going to do about school shootings tragedy.
Virginia Sen. But the status quo isn’t acceptable. I’ve got three daughters," the Post reported. "They asked me on Friday evening, ‘Dad, what are you gonna do about this?’ There’s got to be a way to put reasonable restrictions, particularly as we look at assault weapons, as we look at these fast clips of ammunition.” “I believe …

Under current law, buyers can only purchase one gun a month
Prospective handgun buyers in Virginia may soon be able to purchase more than one handgun a month, the Washington Post reports. The Virginia Senate is expected to lift a limit on buying more than one handgun a month in a vote today, according to the paper. Pro-gun advocates say that the bill is no longer necessary because of required background checks. Previous bills have weakened the one-gun-per-month law, including one that allows holders of concealed weapons permits to purchase more than one handgun a month. Additionally, buyers planning on attending a gun show can apply for a one-week exemption from the ban, the Post reports. “We’re going to become the gun distribution center of the East Coast, just like we were before,” Senate …
