Metro Fine Arts to Hold 'Dance Your Heart Out' in February

Next month is National Heart Month.

For National Heart Month, the Metropolitan Fine Arts Center of Alexandria and Fairfax Station has organized a fundraiser called "Dance Your Heart Out" in February and will donate 10 percent of the proceeds to the American Heart Association. “Dance is one of the best ways to keep your heart in tip-top shape and we’re thrilled to be able to give back to the American Heart Association as they continue to raise awareness about heart disease,” said Melissa Dobbs, founder and executive director of MFAC, in a recent news release. The event offers unlimited adult dance as well as mind and body classes throughout the month for $110. (Normally, the fee for 10 adult classes is $130.) The center offers classes that are the latest trend in fitness.

The Metropolitan Fine Arts Center's Metro Barre classes have become quite popular in Kingstowne since they started in February last year. The center is one of the first studios in the D.C. metro area to offer Metro Barre classes. Instructor Melanie Latrash said people are enjoying the class at the center, as well as all over the county. Metro Barre is a one-hour full body workout that combines elements from ballet, pilates and yoga. The exercises are low impact in nature with high intensity intervals of strength training, and the trend is becoming popular nationwide. Latrash, who is certified by the Aerobics Fitness Association of America (AFAA) and YogaFit, said the class is mostly taken by women, but men are welcome to join. "Metro Barre…

Metro Fine Arts Center Offers Metro Barre Classes

New fitness trend is now offered locally, and your first class is free.

The Metropolitan Fine Arts Center is now offering Metro Barre classes — a workout that combines ballet barre, yoga and pilates to form a comprehensive workout to build leaner muscles. MFAC will offer the first class for free. “Metro Barre is the perfect mix of core and strength training, blended with the barre training that until now, was only used in dance instruction,” said Melissa Dobbs, founder and executive director of MFAC of Alexandria and Fairfax Station. Metro Barre classes lengthen and sculpt muscles and have been referred to as a "transformational workout." After your initial Metro Barre class, cost ranges from $11 to $15. Kingstowne Dance Center Students to Perform at National Christmas Tree Program

Dancers from the Metropolitan Fine Arts Center in Kingstowne will perform Sunday, Dec. 23 at National Christmas Tree program.

Students from local dance studio Metropolitan Fine Arts Center will perform Sunday, Dec. 23 at the National Christmas Tree in Washington, DC, a program coordinated by the National Park Service. Member of the studio's Frosty Follies jazz ensemble were selected to perform at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23 in what will be their eighth year performing at the National Christmas Tree. In all, more than 40 dancers from the dance center will showcase their talents in a live tap dance.
