The preliminary design stage of a construction project on a portion of Telegraph Road is mostly complete, and the full project is expected to be completed by September 2015, said Khalid Gandhi, project manager. This project features improvements along the 0.2 mile strip of Telegraph Road between South Van Dorn Street and South Kings Highway. The construction will also include reconstruction to the Huntley Meadows Park entrance and parking lot on South Kings Highway. Gandhi said Washington Gas has relocated the new line for the project and work on other utilities will be completed by the end of April. Kingstowne area residents can expect to see construction begin on the Telegraph Road improvement starting in March. The project will widen the road between South Kings Highway and South Van Dorn Street. VDOT is designing and constructing the project but it is being funded by Fairfax County — which allocated $10 million for the features of the project. The project is currently in its preliminary design stage, according to the county website. Weather permitting, the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project will be conducting significant Capital Beltway (I-95/495) and Telegraph Road closures the week of August 1. This work will have major impacts on local traffic, especially the Beltway lane closures. Motorists are strongly advised to seek alternate routes to avoid delays. Variable message signs will be posted throughout the area with detour routes.
