VDOT has funding for the project, supervisor says.
A Franconia sinkhole that blocked road access to homes last month will likely be repaired in November, says Lee District Supervisor Jeff McKay (D). After speaking with McKay, Kingstowne Patch reports that the Virginia Department of Transportation has funding to repair the damaged portion of Valley View Drive. McKay said the repairs would only close the street for a couple of days. The hope is to start construction in November in order to avoid Winter weather. For the full story, see Kingstowne Patch.
Drivers are being diverted onto Tilbury Road.
A sinkhole has closed a section of Valley View Drive in Franconia, forcing commuters onto a disused, unpaved road. Kingstowne Patch reports that the sinkhole has opened between the intersection of Valley View and Scotch Drive and the intersection of Valley View and Waterlily Court. Valley View is the only road to several neighborhood streets, forcing drivers onto Tilbury Road, a dirt-and-gravel road that is usually not in use. With the exception of Tilbury Road, the sinkhole has cut off access to the following streets: Check Kingstowne Patch for the full story.

I went over the hole just as it was sinking. I went to the police station, Governmental Center, VDOT and the fire station and it took an inordinate amount of time for anyone to arrive and to open the alternate route through Tilbury woods. I stopped traffic on Valley View until police came. There needs to be a quicker way to do this. Dick Szymanski   more ›
