Vornado Expected to Spend $225 Million on Springfield Mall Renovations by Middle of Next Year

The company released its quarterly earnings report Monday.

Between Jan. 1 and March 31, Vornado Realty Trust spent $8.8 million on the Springfield Mall renovation, which is more than the company has spent on any other projects in its pipeline, according to the Washington Business Journal. The transformation of the Springfield Mall into the Springfield Town Center is expected to cost Vornado $225 million by the middle of 2014. When completed, the new town center will be 1.3 million sq. ft., accessible to about 800,000 people with an estimated household income of more than $117,000 a year and growing, according to the Vornado website. Vornado Releases Video Preview for Springfield Town Center

New video gives insight into shopping mall scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2014.

Vornado Realty Trust has provided a preview video of the Springfield Town Center which is expected to be completed by summer 2014. The new video — provided on the Vornado and shopping center Web sites — elaborates on the Springfield area and new features shoppers can expect when the center opens next year. Some features, Springfield and surrounding area residents should expect, include a multi-screen cinema, a new main entrance with valet parking, a health club, 700-seat food court, multiple kids' areas throughout the property and more than 7,600 parking spaces. According to the video, more than 500,000 cars pass the property daily and about 10,000 D.C. metro riders stop at the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station which is a 10-minute walk …

City Receives Landmark Mall Redevelopment Plans

Howard Hughes Corp. submits plans, but mall owner and City of Alexandria officials are quiet on details.

Landmark Mall owner Howard Hughes Corp. has submitted plans to redevelop part of Landmark Mall, but officials with the city of Alexandria and the Howard Hughes Corp. are keeping mum on specifics. “The Howard Hughes Corp. has made a redevelopment submission, and the City is reviewing the submission for completeness,” said city spokesman Tony Castrilli in a statement. “We are seeking to schedule a community meeting for early April, so the Howard Hughes Corp. can present their plan.” Landmark Mall is located in Alexandria and is another shopping option for those who frequented Springfield Mall, which is now being renovated to become the new and improved Springfield Town Center. Springfield Town Center Positioned to Offer More Retail in Region

Owner Michael Schear said the newly transformed Springfield Mall will service an 'affluent and underserved trade area in the south side of the D.C. Metro area.'

The Springfield Mall transformation is currently still on schedule and construction leases will be complete by summer 2014, said Michael Schear, president of Vornado Realty Trust, according to a recent transcript on Seeking Alpha. Where to Find Your Favorite Springfield Mall Stores

Because of reconstruction, many of the mall's stores have relocated throughout the Kingstowne and Springfield areas.

With the redevelopment of the Springfield Mall underway, of course many of the previous stores are relocated until the Springfield Town Center reopens mid-2014. Your favorite stores are still in business and have relocated in and around Kingstowne. Here's a list of the stores and where they're currently located: The demolition of the Springfield Mall began Nov. 26. Springfield Town Center Construction Continues

The redevelopment of the Springfield Mall is currently progressing on schedule according to Mara Ooguin, a spokesperson for what will soon be the Springfield Town Center. The demolition of the Springfield Mall began Nov. 26. All of the mall's stores closed back in July except for Macy's, JCPenney and Target. The mall's redevelopment and transformation into what will be an upscale town center is part of a three-year effort between the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Vorando Realty Trust, who owns the mall, and a handful of community organizations in the Springfield area. Springfield Mall to Close All but Anchor Stores

Major renovations scheduled to begin in July will leave only the anchor stores intact.

Springfield Mall will close all stores except the anchor department stores come July, according to tenants at the mall. Macy's, Target and JCPenney will remain open as New York-based Vornado Realty Trust begins a two-year renovation of the property.
