Twain Middle School to Have 'Twain Night'

An evening of games and food is an opportunity for prospective students to hear from current students.

Mark Twain Middle School will host Twain Night, an event to showcase and celebrate the academics and various activities at the school. The event will take place from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 14. Current and prospective students and parents are invited to the event. Students who will attend Twain Middle during the 2013-14 school year will have the opportunity to explore the middle school and hear from current students who will participate in performances and demonstrations for younger students. There will also be food, games, a canned food drive, face painting, a cake walk, miniature golf and poetry slams during the event. Kingstowne-Area Students Earn Regional Scholastic Writing Awards

Students from schools in the Kingstowne and Rose Hill areas were recently recognized for their achievements.

Seventy-two students from 22 Fairfax County Public Schools recently earned a total of 113 regional awards in the 2013 Scholastic Writing Awards competition, according to a recent news release. The competition was sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers and administered locally by Writopia Lab. Of the winners, seven students were from Kingstowne area schools including Mark Twain Middle School, Lee High School and Hayfield High School. Kingstowne area winners: Of the FCPS winning entries, 13 received Gold Key awards, 39 received Silver Key Awards, and 61 received Honorable Mentions for outstanding work in dramatic scripts, flash fiction, humor, journalism, personal essays-memoirs, persuasive writing, poetry, short stories, …
