Seven area post office branches will be open later than 5 p.m.
Several U.S. Postal Service offices in the Northern Virginia area are prepared for additional volume for the April 15 federal tax filing deadline coming up on Monday. If you need an extra hour or two to mail your tax return, you can find seven area branches outside of Kingstowne that will be open later than 5 p.m. that day, according to a recent news release. (Post offices in Kingstowne will have regular hours of operation on April 15.) Stopping the mail on Saturdays? Not so fast, say two members of the Northern Virginia congressional delegation. Northern Virginia's U.S. Rep. James P. Moran (D-8th) and U.S. Rep Gerald Connolly (D-11th) expressed concern Wednesday afternoon about the U.S. Postal Service's announcement that it plans to suspend delivery of first-class mail service on Saturdays beginning in August. Calling the six-days-per-week mail delivery business model “no longer sustainable,” the U.S. Postal Service announced Wednesday it will eliminate Saturday delivery of mail by Aug. 1. The plan to change delivery from six days a week to five would only affect first-class mail. Packages, mail-order medicines, priority and express mail would still be delivered on Saturdays, and local post offices will remain open for business Saturdays. According to the U.S. Postal Service, the reasons are continued economic struggles and the increasing use of the Internet for communications and bill paying by consumers. U.S. Postal Service first announced the price change in October.
The price of stamps will go up to 46 cents Sunday. The U.S. Postal Service will also introduce its Global Forever Stamp which will allow customers to mail letters anywhere in the world for one set price of $1.10. USPS first announced the price change in October. The new price is a penny increase from the previous price, according to the news release. Forever stamps are always good for mailing a one-ounce letter anytime in the future regardless of price changes.

I take that dsfds is listing the junk mail from his mailbox. Yes, I also. But mine is at least a few of those junk pieces every day..
