VDOT held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday afternoon.

Against the back drop of free-flowing traffic, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) held a ribbon cutting ceremony 2 p.m. Thursday for the completion of the I-95/I-495 Telegraph Road Interchange. The $265 million project includes 11 new bridges and flyover ramps. "This is an example of Virginia leading the way in improving its highway infrastructure, and ultimately the quality of life for citizens and drivers," said Sean T. The improvements will include reconstruction to the Huntley Meadows Park entrance and parking lot on South Kings Highway.

The preliminary design stage of a construction project on a portion of Telegraph Road is mostly complete, and the full project is expected to be completed by September 2015, said Khalid Gandhi, project manager. This project features improvements along the 0.2 mile strip of Telegraph Road between South Van Dorn Street and South Kings Highway. The construction will also include reconstruction to the Huntley Meadows Park entrance and parking lot on South Kings Highway. Homeowners Associations Protest Proposed VDOT Off-Ramp

Landmark-area residents say they are concerned about health risks from air pollution, but a VDOT environmental assessment says pollutant levels will remain low.

Several homeowners associations in the Landmark area are supporting residents' efforts to protest a proposed Virginia Department of Transportation HOT lanes off-ramp at Turkeycock Run on Interstate 395. VDOT is currently building 29 miles of high-occupancy toll (HOT) lanes extending from Stafford County to the Edsall Road area in Fairfax County, just south of Alexandria. Turkeycock Run is the proposed end to the route.      See: Construction on I-95 Express Lanes Will Impact Fairfax County Members of an effort opposing the ramp, Concerned Residents of Landmark, say an independent study demonstrates that increased air pollution from the proposed project will result in serious, negative health impacts in surrounding communities. More than 500 trucks will be out salting roads, officials say.

Northern Virginia woke up to a blanket of snow Thursday and began preparing for Round 2 forecast for Friday. Weather forecasters say to expect more snow to start falling Friday, between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. There is a 70 percent chance that Northern Virginia will get hit with snow, said Steve Goldstein, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. He said it won’t be a lot but will fall through Friday's rush hour. “We’re looking at another inch or maybe an inch and a half,” Goldstein said. The region was coated with about an inch of snow Thursday morning. Virginia Department of Transportation salted main roads to help ease the morning commute. Joan Morris, a spokeswoman for VDOT, said crews will pre-treat main roads Thursday night into …

Northern Virginia Preparing for Possible Snow

Dominion Power is urging their customers to be prepared with food and an emergency plan.

With a National Weather Service winter storm watch in place for Thursday morning for Northern Virginia, personnel at Dominion Power, Fairfax County Public Schools and the Virginia Department of Transportation have their eyes glued to the weather forecasts. Le-Ha Anderson, a spokeswoman with Dominion Power, said the company is making sure their trucks are gassed up and ready to respond if there are any power outages. She said the utility company has a team of meteorologists that are tracking the storm for them. “Wet snow with some wind could cause some power outages,” Anderson said. “We do urge our customers to be prepared with an emergency plan with phone numbers and nonperishable food just in case there are some outages.” As the forecast …
