Bio: Deanne Goodman is a veteran TV and Web news reporter, anchor and videographer. She's the type of journalist who doesn't mind getting her hands dirty for a story. While reporting she's gone inside a burning building in full firefighting gear, shot an M-16, travelled by hot air balloon, helicopter, snow mobile and on planes to Germany twice after winning media fellowships. Deanne loves any story where she gets to play with animals including the time she got kisses from an 850-pound grizzly bear. She also loves stories that involve eating and stories that end in her getting hugs. Deanne is excited to be part of Patch.com because she gets to help the community while doing what she loves: reporting.
Deanne is very familiar with Carlsbad. She grew up in neighboring Encinitas, graduated La Costa Canyon High School and currently lives in Carlsbad. Deanne left California for eight years while attending Vanderbilt University where she graduated Cum Laude with a BA in Communication Studies, and then lived in Mississippi and Oregon as a TV news reporter and main anchor. Deanne has appeared on numerous networks including CNN.
In her spare time, you'll most likely find Deanne taking her dog Bear on hikes or jogs along the Carlsbad beaches, hanging out with friends, and spending time with family.
In the past few years Deanne has enjoyed modeling as a creative outlet and in particular 1950's style pinup modeling. Deanne loves malt-shop oldies, swing dancing, and believes she may have been born in the wrong decade.
Your Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.
Politics
How would you describe your political beliefs?
Are you registered with a certain party?
I am a registered with a party but I'd say I'm not a very political person.
Religion
How religious would you consider yourself?
I consider myself spiritual but not very religious. I grew up Jewish and practicing but when I became a young adult I realized I felt closer to God not inside a building, but in nature. I believe in being a good person, practicing "The Secret" and the Law of Attraction.

I just heard from someone in Carlsbad that she resisted installation and is glad not to have a smart meter. But her neighbors' meters are making her ears ring. Would you like a blog article about that? She is a writer...

I've always missed getting a local newspaper, but did not like the waste of paper. The Patch has been a great daily option for me. No waste, quick timely news and I really like getting the emergency updates on important things happening in our area. Great concept, great news! Thanks for keeping me updated about my own home town!
