Rose Hill Murder Trial Postponed, Golf Club Tested for DNA

Trial moved to July 5

March saw a number of developments in the trial of a teenager accused of murdering Rose Hill teen Wyatt Campbell, including the rescheduling of the trial.

The defendant is accused in  of the 18-year-old Campbell behind Rose Hill Shopping Center on October 14. After receiving stab wounds, Campbell died that night at Springfield's Inova Healthplex.

The defendant is under 18. It is Patch policy not to name minors accused of crimes.

On March 21, the court ordered DNA testing of a golf club shaft, at the defense's request and with the agreement of the Commonwealth's Attorney. The order specified that the testing be completed by May 20, and authorized the taking of the defendant's DNA by swabbing his mouth, if the court doesn't have a record of his DNA already.

, witness Randolph Taylor, who said he was with Campbell the night of the fight, said he was unsure whether Campbell had picked up a golf club at Campbell's grandmother's house before the fight.

Because of the time required to receive DNA evidence, the jury trial scheduled for April 11 was rescheduled for July 5.
