New Charge in Springfield Triple Homicide Case

Firearm charge carries possibility for life in prison.

A Maryland man indicted in connection with a 2008 triple homicide in Springfield has a new charge against him.

Delante T. Cook, a 34-year-old Prince George's County resident,  with attempted robbery and conspiring to commit robbery. On June 30, a grand jury handed down a new charge on Cook: using a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. 

Allegedly, Cook and at least two other men planned in November 2008 to rob two Springfield brothers who dealt marijuana. On November 19, 2008, Cook and his accomplices, dressed as law enforcement officers, broke into the brothers' home armed with knives and guns.

According to the indictment, after pistol-whipping one of the brothers, Terence Strope, the accused men stabbed him, his brother Ryan Strope, and their friend Andres Yelicie to death.

Jelani Slay, one of Cook's alleged accomplices, was shot and killed in 2009 by a Washington police officer during an attempted robbery. The identities of any other accomplices has not been released.

The two robbery-related charges against Cook carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison each, while the firearm charge has a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and a maximum penalty of life in prison.

Cook is expected to be arraigned on the new charge at 9 a.m. on July 8.
