Bomb Found in Franconia Contained Nails, Could Have Caused Fatal Injuries

Box was filled with nails and cylinders connected to a fuse.

The bomb found in a Franconia home on Gildar Street last week could have killed anyone near it, WUSA9 reports.

A cleaning crew in a home for sale in the 6500 block of Gildar Street on March 5, police reported.

According to a police search warrant request obtained by WUSA9, the device was in a box that contained several cylinders connected to a fuse. Police believe that the cylinders had explosive materials. Inside the box, the cylinders were surrounded by nails and other hardware.

The bomb, if detonated, could have caused injury or death to someone near the device, according to the search warrant.

After the bomb was discovered, the Fairfax County Police Department's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team took it outside the home and disarmed it.

The house reportedly has not been occupied for several months.
