Police Target Distracted Drivers in Franconia Area

What's the strangest thing you've seen someone do while driving?

If you clip your nails or eat cereal while driving, Fairfax County Police officers in the Franconia Police District were after drivers like you earlier this month.

From April 28 to May 6, officers were targeting drivers who weren't paying full attention to the road. While police were on the look-out for notorious distractions like texting, there are also some more unusual things drivers do on the road that takes their eyes off the wheel.

"I have personally seen someone attempt to eat a bowl of cereal years ago while driving and another officer here at the station has told me about the eyebrow plucking," according to Officer Brooke Wright.

Wright has also seen drivers shaving, reading a newspaper, and putting on make-up.

Eating cereal or shaving might not tip off an officer to a distracted driver, according to Wright, but the resulting poor driving can draw police attention. Wright did not have immediate figures on how many drivers were ticketed during the enforcement push.
