Meeting on Kingstowne Dam and Park Tonight

Dam broke in October, draining lakes

Residents and Fairfax County employees will discuss options for Kingstowne Park and the repair of Kingstowne Dam at a meeting tonight.

The public meeting, organized by the Fairfax County Park Authority and the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services, will be at the Franconia Government Center on 6121 Franconia Road. The meeting is expected to run between 7 and 8:30 p.m., in the Helene Wison Community Room.

Kingstowne Park is a 75-acre park on Old Telegraph Road near Hayfield Secondary. Two man-made lakes in the park in October 2010 after the Kingstowne dam broke in October 2010 after days of heavy rains. The stench of rotting fish and vegetation hung over the area for days.
