Springfield Estates Wins $100,000 Grant from Target

School plans to spend money on literacy efforts

Springfield Estates Elementary School has won a $100,000 grant from Target, according to a Fairfax County Public Schools press release.

The grant, along with 50 others, was given out as part of a contest with Target and the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Viewers were asked to suggest schools that deserved the grants and explain why.

Springfield Estates' staff plans to use the grant in literacy programs at the school. 25 percent of the school's students are considered to have limited proficiency in English.
